The Details

Operating a boom truck requires skill, focus, and a solid understanding of the hazards that come with lifting and working at height. Our 0–8 Tonne Boom Truck Training gives operators the confidence and competency they need to work safely and stay compliant with Ontario’s legislation.

Built for construction crews, utility workers, arborists, municipal teams, and industrial sites, this course goes far beyond basic instruction. We cover real-world hazards, load handling, rigging fundamentals, safe operating techniques, and the legal responsibilities outlined in:
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • O. Reg. 213/91 – Construction Projects
  • O. Reg. 851 – Industrial Establishments
  • CSA standards for boom-type elevating work platforms

Training is hands-on, practical, and designed to help workers make good decisions on the job - not just pass a theory class. The course consists of 3.5 hours of theory followed by practical training. By the end, operators understand how to set up, stabilize, control, and shut down a boom truck safely in a variety of conditions.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Machine must be supplied by client and in safe, legal working order.
  • Students must wear PPE - CSA approved steel toed-boots, hard hat

Note: Course length can be affected by the number of students, class participation, and levels of experience.

Who Should Attend?

This course is essential for anyone who operates, assists with, or works around a boom truck in construction, utility, municipal, or industrial environments. Proper training ensures operators understand the hazards, safe operating techniques, and legal requirements under Ontario’s OHSA.
  • Boom truck operators (new or experienced)
  • Construction workers involved in lifting or hoisting tasks
  • Utility workers (hydro, telecom, cable, gas)
  • Arborists and tree-care crews
  • Municipal and public works employees
  • Industrial and maintenance workers using truck-mounted lifting devices
  • Supervisors and lead hands overseeing lifting operations
  • Rigging and signalers supporting hoisting tasks
  • Contractors and subcontractors performing elevated or lifting work
  • Workers transitioning from forklifts, cranes, or MEWPs into boom truck operation
We break down the legislation in clear, practical language so supervisors and workers understand not just what the law says, but how to apply it on the job.
