THE Details

Forklifts move fast and work hard, and when they’re not operated properly, the consequences can be serious. In Ontario, employers are required under the OHSA to make sure every operator is trained, competent, and able to recognize hazards before they climb into the seat.

Our Forklift Operator Training is built to help you meet those responsibilities with confidence. The program follows CSA B335-15 – Safety Standard for Lift Trucks and can be customized to include your company’s in-house policies, procedures, or site-specific requirements.

Expert Instruction, Real Experience - Our training team brings years of practical experience from construction, warehousing, industrial sites, and logistics. We teach the way people actually work – clear, steady guidance rooted in industry best practices and Ontario’s regulatory requirements.

Hands-On Learning That Builds Competency - Operators start with 3.5 hours of theory to understand how lift trucks work, how to identify hazards, and how to operate with control and awareness. From there, we move into practical skills where students learn how to:
  • complete a proper pre-operational inspection
  • identify defects
  • use the controls smoothly
  • steer and brake with precision
  • lift, carry, and place loads safely
 STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
  • PPE - CSA approved steel toed-boots, work pants
  • Dress for the weather
Forklift safety training at Safety Guys Ontario
Our instructors work one-on-one with each participant to make sure they can demonstrate the full range of safe operating skills – not just pass a written test.

This combination of strong theory and hands-on practice helps workers become competent, confident operators, and helps employers meet Ontario’s training and due diligence requirements.

Who Should Attend?

This Forklift Operator course is designed for anyone who operates or works around powered industrial lift trucks, including Class 1 (Electric Riders), Class 4 (IC Cushion Tire), and Class 5 (IC Pneumatic Tire) trucks. Training meets CSA B335 requirements and equips workers with the skills to operate safely and confidently in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, shipping yards, and retail environments.
  • Warehouse and distribution centre workers
  • Manufacturing and production staff
  • Shipping and receiving personnel
  • Retail and big-box store employees
  • Construction and industrial labourers who use forklifts on-site
  • Logistics and supply chain workers
  • Truck drivers who load/unload with forklifts
  • Yard and dock workers
  • Maintenance personnel moving materials or equipment
  • Supervisors and lead hands responsible for forklift operations or pre-use checks
New operators, experienced operators, and workers requiring recertification all benefit from this course. Anyone who uses a forklift to move, lift, stack, or transport materials in Ontario must be trained and evaluated to meet CSA and OHSA requirements.

Employer's Responsibilities
Workplace Specific Training

Initial forklift training gives workers the foundation, but true competency only develops through guided practice. New operators need time, coaching, and repetition before they can work independently with confidence and control.
  • We strongly recommend implementing a company policy that requires new operators to complete a set number of supervised hours under a competent operator or supervisor. This supervised period helps workers build muscle memory, refine techniques, and learn how to navigate real-world conditions safely.
  • The number of hours will vary depending on the operator’s experience, coordination, and ability to follow direction. To support your decision-making, our instructors can provide a post-training report with individualized recommendations for each worker. This helps you set expectations, meet your due diligence obligations, and ensure every operator is truly ready before working alone.
