THE DETAILS

Landscaping work is fast-paced, physical, and full of moving parts - from small power tools to mid-size equipment and unpredictable outdoor conditions.

Our Landscaping Safety Training gives workers the knowledge and hands-on skills they need to stay safe while operating equipment, handling materials, and working in changing weather and terrain.

This course covers the essential tools and hazards landscapers face every day, including leaf blowers, stand-up skid steers, wheelbarrows, chainsaws, pruners, concrete saws, ergonomics, poisonous plants, insects, extreme heat/cold, and outdoor worksite hazards.

To support workers entering the field for the first time, we also offer two optional add-on modules: Fundamentals of Plant and Lawn Care, designed to help participants understand soil, plant ID, pruning basics, and safe handling of fertilizers and chemicals; and Fundamentals of Working with Stone, designed to introduce students to the materials, grading techniques and basics of interlocking stone required to build walkways and patios.

Whether you’re building a new team or helping new hires gain the confidence to work safely, this course gives workers practical skills that transfer directly to the job site.

Paul Van Belle’s roots in horticulture run deep. Growing up in the industry, he learned from some of the best landscapers in both Picton and Kingston before launching Stone & Maple Landscaping with his wife and business partner, Brenda Van Belle. Together, they created standout projects like the Water Conservation Gardens at Utilities Kingston and the Shakespeare Garden in Prescott — spaces that showcase thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the land.

Beyond building beautiful landscapes, Paul and Brenda have spent years teaching others to do the same. They have delivered successful landscaping and horticulture programs in partnership with St. Lawrence College and Career Edge, helping job seekers, students, and even federal inmates build meaningful skills and find a path toward a career in the green industry.
