THE Details

A safe workplace starts with skilled, confident workers. Our Overhead Crane Training gives operators and support staff the knowledge and hands-on skills they need to use these powerful machines safely and responsibly.

Overhead cranes move heavy loads, and with that comes real risk. This course helps workers understand load capacities, rigging basics, swing control, communication signals, and the hazards that come with lifting and moving materials in busy industrial environments. Participants learn how to control the crane with precision, assess hazards, and follow safe lifting practices that meet Ontario OHSA and CSA B167 requirements.
  • Training includes a full theory component followed by individual operator evaluations on your equipment, at your facility.
  • Upon successful completion, workers receive a wallet-sized record of training card, and employers receive documented proof of training for their safety files.

Investing in crane training strengthens your safety culture, reduces preventable incidents, and helps your workplace stay compliant with provincial standards.

Course Length
4 hours of theory followed by practical training.
Course length can be affected by number of students, class participation, and levels of experience.

Who Should Attend?

This combined Overhead Crane and Rigging & Hoisting course is designed for anyone who operates cranes, guides loads, or works around lifting operations in industrial or construction environments. Because safe lifting depends on both strong crane skills and proper rigging knowledge, this course is essential for workers involved in any part of the lift.
  • Overhead crane operators (new or experienced)
  • Industrial and manufacturing workers who move materials with cranes
  • Warehouse and production staff supporting lifting operations
  • Construction workers, apprentices, and labourers assisting with rigged loads
  • Millwrights, mechanics, and maintenance personnel handling component lifts
  • Riggers and signalers who attach, balance, or guide suspended loads
  • Yard workers performing heavy or awkward lifts
  • Supervisors, lead hands, and JHSC members responsible for lift planning and safety
  • Contractors working in facilities with overhead cranes
Anyone who attaches, lifts, moves, or signals loads will benefit from this course. Participants learn how to control the crane safely, inspect rigging hardware, calculate sling angles, understand load charts, and communicate clearly during hoisting operations - all critical skills under Ontario’s OHSA and CSA B167.

what you learn

In addition to Overhead Crane instruction, this course also includes Rigging and Hoisting curriculum. Topics discussed include risk management, the rigging plan, inspection of hardware and slings, rigging capacities, weights of loads and center of gravity, the rigging triangle, load control and safe operating practices.
