Traffic Control Persons play a critical role in keeping workers and the public safe around active work zones. In Ontario, anyone performing TCP duties must complete recognized training that follows the Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7 – Temporary Conditions and demonstrate they can apply those skills safely on the job.

Our TCP training teaches workers how to control the flow of traffic, communicate effectively, position themselves safely, and manage work zones in accordance with Book 7 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

​But training doesn’t end in the classroom.

To be considered fully competent, participants must return to their workplace and:

• demonstrate proper traffic control techniques in real job-site conditions
• apply Book 7 requirements, company procedures, and work zone safety standards
• maintain clear visibility, proper positioning, and effective communication with motorists and crews
• be evaluated and signed off by a competent supervisor or employer representative
• ensure training records are properly documented as part of the employer’s due diligence under the OHSA

​This process ensures every Traffic Control Person not only understands the legal requirements, but can confidently manage live traffic, protect workers, and maintain safe, compliant work zones in Ontario.
