THE DETAILS

Our Scissor Lift Training gives Ontario workers the practical skills and safety knowledge they need to operate scissor lifts confidently and in full compliance with provincial regulations.

This course covers everything from pre-operation inspections and stability principles to safe operating procedures, fall-protection expectations, and emergency response protocols.

Participants learn through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on practical training, gaining a clear understanding of equipment limitations, common hazards, and how to work safely in both indoor and outdoor environments. Training aligns with Ontario’s OHSA, Reg. 851/213, and relevant CSA standards for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms.

Workers can choose to join a public course at our Kingston, Belleville, or Picton (Base31) training centres, or companies can arrange a private on-site session tailored to their equipment and workplace.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Scissor Lift/MEWP certification, demonstrating their competency and readiness to operate scissor lifts safely and legally in Ontario workplaces.

Course length can be affected by number of students, class participation, and levels of experience.

Who Should Attend?

This Scissor Lift training is designed for workers who operate or work near vertical lift platforms in construction, industrial, commercial, and retail settings. Scissor lifts may look simple to operate, but workers still need proper training to understand stability, fall protection requirements, safe movement, and the hazards of working at height.
  • Construction workers and apprentices
  • Electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers, and other trades
  • Warehouse and manufacturing staff
  • Building maintenance and facility workers
  • Retail and commercial staff who use vertical lifts for stocking or signage
  • Sign installers, painters, cleaners, and decorators
  • Event, film, and production teams using indoor lifts
  • Supervisors and lead hands overseeing elevated work
  • New operators, experienced operators, and workers needing recertification
Any worker who uses or works around scissor lifts must be trained to recognize hazards, operate the lift safely, understand load and height limits, and follow manufacturer and OHSA requirements.
