IN-HOUSE TRAINING: PREFERRED METHOD
As an employer, you have the legal respsonsibility to ensure your forklift operators are trained in accordance with Ministry of Labour regulations and CSA standards. Our forklift courses help you meet these standards by providing in-depth training conducted at your location or job site. In-house training allows our instructors to train and evaluate students on the forklift they will be operating, in the specific workplace conditions they will be operating in and in the tasks they will be expected to perform. Clients are invited to submit in-house policies to be included during the training session. Training is designed to meet the requirements of CSA standard B335-15. Students receive theory and practical instruction on the safe operation of machinery, applicable Health and Safety Act requirements, Ministry of Labour Regulations, accident prevention, safe handling of materials, loads and stability, and operational controls. Students must pass both a written theory test and a practical skills assessment to attain certification. Courses offered include: (* Propane Cylinder Exchange is included in the curriculum where applicable)

EMPLOYER'S RESPONSIBILITIES:
AFTER TRAINING
While initial training will offer the basics of safe forklift operation, it does not allow for the practice that is necessary to become a truly efficient and safe operator. Whether your driver has been trained in-house or through a public course, there are certain obligations that you still must meet. It is best to have a policy in place where new operators are required to complete a set amount of hours under the direct supervision of a supervisor or another competent, certified operator before they can be permitted to work alone. These hours may vary based on age, ability, and a willingness to follow direction. Our trainers will submit a follow-up report to you with our recommendations to help you with this decision.
When hiring a skilled operator that is new to your company, you must follow through with worksite specific training as make and model, material handling, load capacities, docks, ramps, racking etc. will vary from workplace to workplace. They must also be trained on your company specific policies and procedures, inspection procedures, and the manufacturer's directions with clear direction provided and documented on all aspects of their expected duties.
Records of training must be kept and made available upon request to Ministry of Labour Inspectors.
