THE Details

Confined spaces can create serious hazards, even for workers who never step inside them. Our Confined Space Awareness course helps participants understand what qualifies as a confined space, how to recognize common hazards, and how to support safe work around these areas.

This training follows Ontario’s Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05) and breaks the information down into clear, practical steps. Workers learn the different types of confined spaces, why they’re dangerous, and the safe practices needed to protect themselves and others.

• Participants explore real-world risks such as poor ventilation, toxic gases, low oxygen, engulfment, and other hazards found in spaces like tanks, silos, sewers, pits, and similar restricted areas.​
• ​This course is ideal for workers who assist with confined space operations, supervise entry, or need a solid understanding of the regulations without performing the actual entry work themselves.

If workers will be required to enter a confined space, or you have attendants that require in depth training we recommend our Confined Space Entry Course.

The final length of the course will depend on the number of students, their experience levels and class participation during discussions and practical training.

​Who Should Attend?

Confined Space Awareness training is designed for workers who may work near, assist with, or supervise confined space operations but do not enter the space themselves. Even without entry, workers can still be exposed to serious hazards, which is why Ontario’s Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05) requires proper awareness training for anyone who plays a supporting role.​

• Workers who support confined space entry teams
• Attendants / standby personnel
• Supervisors, lead hands, and forepersons
• Maintenance and facilities staff
• Industrial, municipal, and utility workers​​

• Construction workers who work around tanks, pits, vaults, or excavations
• Health & Safety Representatives and JHSC members
• New or young workers needing foundational knowledge
• Any worker who may encounter confined spaces on site even if they never enter

This course helps workers recognize confined spaces, understand atmospheric risks, communicate effectively with entry teams, and maintain safe practices around areas such as tanks, silos, pits, sewers, crawl spaces, and similar restricted locations. Confined Space Awareness is the right choice for anyone who needs to understand the hazards - without performing entry - so they can support safer operations and meet Ontario regulatory requirements.
