the Details

Our full-day Traffic Control - Book 7: Temporary Conditions course gives workers the skills and confidence to manage traffic safely in Ontario work zones. Students receive clear instruction on the requirements of the Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7, including roles and responsibilities, legislation, safe positioning, and effective communication with both motorists and work crews.

This course focuses on real-world situations workers face on the job, including complex traffic patterns, changing road conditions, night work, and struck-by hazards. Participants learn how to set up, monitor, and adjust temporary traffic control systems to protect workers and the public at all times.

Students will practice developing a traffic control plan, working through each step needed to design, implement, and maintain a safe work zone-from signage and layout, to communication, hazard controls, and emergency procedures.

This training helps workers understand the law, perform their duties confidently, and keep everyone moving safely through active construction and maintenance areas.
Book 7 training at Safety Guys Workplace Safety Trainers
"The purpose of the Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) is to provide information and guidance for transportation practitioners and to promote uniformity of treatment in the design, application and operation of traffic control devices and systems across Ontario.

The objective is safe driving behaviour, achieved by a predictable roadway environment through the consistent, appropriate application of
traffic control devices. Further purposes of the OTM are to provide a set of guidelines consistent with the intent of the Highway Traffic Act and to provide a basis for road authorities to generate or update their own guidelines and standards. "

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is essential for anyone involved in traffic control, road work, or temporary work zone setup in Ontario. It provides the knowledge and hands-on skills required to protect workers, motorists, and the public in active work areas.

  • Road maintenance and municipal crews
