Every year, workers are killed or seriously injured because machinery or equipment was not properly locked out. LOTO is the use of locks and tags to render machinery or equipment inoperable or to isolate an energy source.
The purpose of this training is to instruct workers in the application of LOTO procedures so they can be protected from the hazards that occur when machinery or equipment is accidentally or inadvertently turned on. Accidents caused by faulty LOTO include severed fingers, amputations, crushed limbs, shocks, electrocutions, and fatalities.
